Election-Related Restrictions Imposed in Kolkata Ahead of Polls
The Kolkata Police has issued a notification, effective from April 27, prohibiting motorbike movement from 6 pm to 6 am in the city, in accordance with the directions of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). This move is part of the measures aimed at ensuring free, fair, and peaceful polling in the city.
The CEO had instructed all district election officers, police commissioners, and superintendents to impose curbs on motorcycle movement two days before polling. The restrictions will remain in place across the Kolkata metropolitan area and parts of South 24 Parganas under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police.
| Restrictions | Duration | Exceptions |
|---|---|---|
| No motorbike rallies | 6 pm to 6 am | Medical emergencies, family exigencies |
| No pillion riding | 6 am to 6 pm | Medical emergencies, family functions, schoolchildren |
| Pillion riding permitted | 6 am to 6 pm on polling day | Family members for voting |
Those seeking exemptions from these restrictions will need to obtain prior written permission from the local police station. The measures are aimed at preventing intimidation or untoward incidents and ensuring that the polling process runs smoothly.
Kolkata will vote in the second phase of the elections on April 29, while the first phase of polling in the state is scheduled for April 23.
