India and Germany Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held high-level talks with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius in Berlin on Wednesday to bolster the strategic partnership between the two nations. The talks resulted in the signing of an agreement for a defence industrial cooperation roadmap, as announced by officials.
During the meeting, Singh stressed the importance of condemning terrorism in all its forms, echoing his comments on the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack. He also highlighted the significance of India and Germany's contributions to global stability and economic strength in times of uncertainty.
The defence ministry stated that Singh and Pistorius engaged in bilateral talks to further strengthen their strategic defence partnership. The discussion covered a range of issues, including priority areas for co-development and co-production of defence equipment, particularly in niche technologies. The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to enhance military-to-military cooperation as a key pillar of their strategic partnership.
The meeting resulted in the signing of two key agreements: the 'Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap' and the 'Implementing Arrangement for Cooperation in UN Peacekeeping Training'. Singh's visit to Germany was described as a symbol of the deep friendship, synergy, and trust between the two nations.
Singh took to social media platform X to share his experience of visiting the TKMS submarine building facility in Kiel, accompanied by Pistorius. He noted that the visit showcased cutting-edge technologies and advanced naval capabilities, which will be mutually beneficial for cooperation in the maritime domain.
The partnership between India and Germany has witnessed considerable momentum in defence cooperation over the last few years, particularly after Pistorius assumed the office of the defence minister of Germany. The recent India-EU Security & Defence Partnership marks a significant step in deepening collective engagement.
Both ministers agreed to leverage this framework for tangible outcomes that will strengthen regional stability, enhance joint capabilities, and reinforce the enduring Indo-German strategic alignment. Pistorius appreciated the institutionalisation of service level staff talks and future bilateral military exercises.
