Indian Student Creates AI Influencer, Allegedly Scams Americans Out of Significant Amounts
Fake Influencer Exposed: Indian Student Earns Lakhs by Monetizing Gemini AI-Generated MAGA Content
A 22-year-old Indian medical student has been exposed for using Google's Gemini AI to create a fake, hyper-viral MAGA influencer persona and earning several thousand dollars, amounting to lakhs of rupees, by monetizing politically charged content aimed at American conservatives. The student, who spoke to WIRED under the pseudonym "Sam," created the AI-generated personality while struggling with medical school expenses and saving for costly licensing exams and a planned move to the US.
According to WIRED, Sam used Gemini's image and text-generation tools to build "Emily Hart," a fictional US-based nurse with strong pro-MAGA views. Initially, Sam experimented with generic AI-created models but found little traction. He then turned to Gemini for advice on how to improve engagement, and the chatbot suggested targeting the MAGA or conservative niche, describing it as a "cheat code" due to the audience's loyalty and spending power.
Sam followed the guidance and reshaped the persona's online identity around conservative political messaging and lifestyle imagery. Under the Instagram handle @emily_hart.nurse, the AI influencer posted reels and images depicting gun ranges, outdoor activities, American flags, and captions opposing abortion, immigration, and "woke" politics. The content quickly went viral, with individual reels drawing millions of views and the account crossing 10,000 followers within weeks.

Once the page gained traction, Sam monetized it through subscriptions and by selling MAGA-themed merchandise such as T-shirts. He reported earning "a few thousand dollars a month" while spending less than an hour a day managing the account. In rupee terms, the earnings ran into several lakhs.
The account has since been taken down or flagged, but the case has reignited concerns around AI-powered impersonation, political manipulation, and the ease with which generative tools can be used to exploit online audiences across borders.

|---|---|---|
| Instagram (@emily_hart.nurse) | 10,000+ followers, millions of views per reel | Several lakhs of rupees per month |
