Hyderabad Police Bust Cannabis Cultivation Operation

On [no specific date mentioned], the Prohibition and Excise Department in Hyderabad conducted a raid on the residence of Ch Shashidhar, a former software engineer, following specific intelligence inputs. The operation was carried out by the Ranga Reddy Enforcement 'A' team, resulting in the arrest of Shashidhar and the recovery of 17 cannabis plants from the rooftop of his house in East Gandhinagar.

According to excise authorities, several of the plants had entered the flowering stage, while others had grown to a height of nearly three meters. Officials estimated that the plants could have yielded close to 10 kilograms of ganja. The raid was a result of an investigation into Shashidhar's alleged dependency on marijuana and alcohol, which led to the loss of his job in the software sector.

Prior to his arrest, Shashidhar had been spending a substantial portion of his earnings on procuring the substance. After losing his job, he allegedly began cultivating ganja on his terrace to meet his personal consumption needs. Further details revealed that Shashidhar initially sourced ganja externally and later began extracting seeds from the substance to grow plants at his residence.

The cultivation operation gradually expanded over time, and officials believe that Shashidhar's actions may be linked to substance dependency and loss of employment. Following his arrest, he was handed over to officials at the Ghatkesar excise station for further legal proceedings. A case has been registered, and investigations are continuing to determine whether there are any connections to supply or distribution networks.

In a separate but related operation, the same enforcement team arrested two BTech students in Medipally, Bandi Arun Kumar and B Ashish, for allegedly selling ganja. Officials recovered approximately 480 grams of the substance from their possession during the operation. The two were also handed over to Ghatkesar excise authorities for further investigation and action under relevant laws.
