Ola Electric Reports Positive Sales Growth in Northern Region's Motorcycle Segment
Ola Electric Sees Early Traction in India's Electric Motorcycle Segment
Ola Electric is experiencing significant growth in India's electric motorcycle segment, with its market share improving across several northern states, despite the category remaining small and competitive, according to industry data seen by Moneycontrol.
Registration trends from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan show that Ola Electric's share has increased in recent months, albeit from a low base and amid fluctuations in total volumes.
| State | February Market Share | March Market Share | April Market Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uttar Pradesh | 30% (60 units) | 60% (400 units) | 80% (500 units) |
| Madhya Pradesh | 20% (25 units) | 40% (100 units) | 64% (100 units) |
| Bihar | 19% (no data) | 30% (no data) | 56% (no data) |

In Uttar Pradesh, Ola Electric's share rose from about 30 per cent in February to more than 60 per cent in March and further to 80 per cent in April, with registrations increasing from 60 units to 400 and 500 units, respectively. In Madhya Pradesh, its share climbed from 20 per cent (around 25 units) in February to 40 per cent in March and 64 per cent (100 units) in April.
Bihar and Rajasthan also recorded gains. In Bihar, Ola's share increased from 19 per cent in February to 30 per cent in March and 56 per cent in April. In Rajasthan, it rose from 19 per cent to 37 per cent and 51 per cent over the same period.
However, total registrations across these markets declined sequentially in April compared to March, with Uttar Pradesh falling from 662 to 606 units and Madhya Pradesh from 266 to 170 units, indicating that demand remains inconsistent and the segment is yet to stabilise.
Industry executives noted that Ola's gains partly reflect a fragmented competitive landscape, where several rivals are still scaling up operations. The market is still evolving, and no single player has established long-term dominance yet.

Data also suggests that Ola's Roadster platform has captured over 50 per cent of electric motorcycle sales in some large states during March and April, highlighting early traction in bike-centric markets.
At the same time, the broader electric motorcycle segment is expanding, with monthly sales nearing 5,000 units, up fivefold from a year ago, though still a fraction of the overall two-wheeler market, as per Vahan data.
For Ola Electric, the current momentum provides an early advantage, but sustaining share gains will depend on consistent execution as more manufacturers enter the space and competition intensifies.
Investor Takeaway
Ola Electric is gaining traction in India's electric motorcycle segment, particularly in northern states.
