Reliance Industries' New Energy Business Expands with Major Contracts
Reliance Industries Ltd's new energy business is rapidly scaling up its green ammonia, battery storage, and solar operations, backed by significant contracts with major off-takers. The company has signed a substantial deal to supply green ammonia to South Korean firm Samsung C&T Corp. in a $3 billion, 15-year contract, set to commence in the second half of FY29. This contract is aligned with the government's National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), and it highlights the growing confidence in Reliance's integrated green energy and chemicals ecosystem.
Reliance's green ammonia manufacturing facilities are part of the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex, a cornerstone of the company's green energy ambitions. The complex, located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, also includes solar modules and a 20 GWh (Gigawatt hour) lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery storage manufacturing facility, scheduled for commissioning over the next few years. The 40 GWp (Gigawatt peak) battery energy storage system (BESS) and battery cell manufacturing facility is progressing at a rapid pace, with equipment already on-site and commissioning set to begin progressively throughout the year.
The company is also constructing a round-the-clock solar power generation facility in Kachchh, Gujarat, spanning nearly 5,50,000 acres of land, with construction contracts already awarded. Enabling infrastructure, such as transmission lines, is being built to support the facility. Furthermore, Reliance is engaged in advanced discussions with off-takers from Japan, Korea, and Europe, indicating a strong demand for its green energy products.
