Market Bounces Back: FIIs Net Buy Indian Equities Worth Rs 666 Crore

Foreign investors (FIIs/FPIs) net bought Rs 666 crore worth of Indian equities on April 15, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) net sold shares worth Rs 569 crore, according to provisional exchange data.

During the trading session, DIIs purchased shares worth Rs 18,500 crore and sold shares worth Rs 19,069 crore. FIIs, on the other hand, bought shares worth Rs 18,076 crore and sold shares worth Rs 17,409 crore.

The year-to-date comparison highlights a stark contrast between FIIs and DIIs, with FIIs having been net sellers of shares worth Rs 2.11 lakh crore, while DIIs have net bought shares worth Rs 2.76 lakh crore.

Market Performance

The market opened sharply higher by 321 points, fueled by robust global cues and sliding crude prices. The index hit its day's high in the first minute and consolidated at higher levels throughout the session, finally closing higher by 388 points at 24,231, the highest since March 10, 2026.

All sectoral indices advanced, with Nifty Consumer Durables, IT, and Realty posting the sharpest gains. Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 outperformed, rising 2.2% and 2.35%, respectively. The BSE's advance-decline ratio surged to 4.47, underscoring sustained buying in mid- and small-caps.

Nandish Shah, Deputy Vice President at HDFC Securities, noted that on the technical front, Nifty has closed decisively above its 50 DEMA resistance placed near 24,188, strengthening the current uptrend further. Near-term support has now shifted higher to around 24,000, while the 24,570 zone may act as the immediate resistance level.
