Electronics Imports Exceed $100 Billion in 2025-26, Commerce Ministry Reports
Detailed Analysis
India's Electronics Imports Surpass $100 Billion Mark in 2025-26
According to data released by the Commerce Ministry, India's electronics imports have reached a historic high of $100 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26.
The country's electronics imports have shown a significant growth of 17.76 per cent, reaching $116.17 billion in 2025-26 compared to $98.65 billion in the preceding fiscal year. This substantial increase highlights the country's continued reliance on imported semiconductors, components, and electronic equipment despite its efforts to promote domestic manufacturing.
The think tank GTRI has noted that India's high electronics imports underscore the country's dependence on foreign electronics. This trend is evident in the stark contrast between the country's imports and exports. While electronics exports have climbed 24.7 per cent to $48.0 billion, driven by a surge in smartphone shipments, they still lag far behind imports.
| Year | Electronics Imports (in billions of USD) | Growth Rate (%) | | --- | --- | --- | | 2025-26 | $116.17 | 17.76 | | 2024-25 | $98.65 | - |
Note: The growth rate is calculated based on the preceding fiscal year.
Investor Takeaway
India's high electronics imports may indicate a continued dependence on imported semiconductors and electronic equipment.
